Books You Need To Read This Summer

Hey Friend!

Today I am going to share about one of my favorite topics to talk about. Books! I could talk about books all day! For now, I am just going to stick with books I think you should read this summer. I have already read several of these and loved them, or I have them on my current TBR.

Before we get into the list, I wanted to start off and say, I mainly read fantasy/romantasy. This is my go to genre. I find myself not always liking romance, but for some reason, I do tend to gravitate towards them in the summer! And, some of my all time top favorite books happen to be on this list. So I am really excited to share these with you!

Do I Know You by Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka is one of my all time favorite books! I liked it so much the first time that I reread it and I think I liked it even more the second time! This book is about a married couple who feel like they've lost the spark in their marriage, and are going to an all inclusive resort for their five-year-anniversary. Another guest at the bar mistakes Eliza and Graham for being single and introduces them to each other and they go along with it. Pretending to be strangers meeting for the first time.

What I love about this book: I love so many things! A little back story, when i first read this book I was in my fifth year of marriage as well, we had been dealing with infertility for a while, and I definitely felt like we lost the spark in our marriage. I think the thing that stands out to me the greatest is that this is a story about a couple who is married to each other and they have to figure out how to reconnect with one another. This isn't another "just met" fling, this is a couple who has known each other and been married for 5 years and they are figuring out how to put that spark back in their marriage. Not only was this book is funny and has such a sweet relationship, but it gave me so much hope for my own marriage and I was so encouraged reading this book!

The Sumer of Broken Rules by K. L. Walther is such a fun summer read. It's light and easy going and funny. It takes place at Martha's Vineyard, an island off the coast of Massachusetts. The atmosphere of this book is incredible! In this book, the main character Meredith is visiting her family's "farm" where all of her extended family is visiting for a summer wedding. Leading up the the wedding, the whole family, and friends (everyone who is staying there for the wedding) participate in the family's annual game of assassin. Meredith is excited to play and through this she meets one of the groomsman and it turns into a sweet romance.

Once again, I loved the atmosphere of this book! And oh my goodness, the game assassin sounds like so much fun! This book is a summer dream for me! And I wish I had a big family who would do something like this!

Rules for the Summer by Meghan Quinn is actually on my TBR list. This is one that I 100% bought for the cover! But the blurb on Amazon says, " He clicked "yes" on a dare. She bought a failing candy shop. Now they're neighbors for the summer--and neither is ready for what comes next. Honestly, I don't know if this will become a favorite, I will have to report back once I read it! But I am excited to give this rom-com a try!

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman is not my typical style of book, and isn't really a summery book, but oh boy did this series hook me! A little backstory on this book, my husband actually bought this book for me and surprised me with it! Now my husband doesn't read, and he doesn't really enjoy books, and he can't really keep up with all that I read. But he picked a good one with this book!

I don't even know how to describe this book! Basically an alien invasion and the destruction of all man-made structures on earth happened. And Carl and his ex-girlfriend's cat, Princess Donut try to survive the end of the world in this video game like dungeon that is also the set of a galactic reality television show. So much goes on in these books and half the time I have no idea what is going on but I have been sucked into them! These are a fun read no matter what time of year it is!

Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez is another all time favorite book of mine. I laughed out loud so many times while reading it! One thing that I love about Abby's books is she writes her characters like real people with real character flaws that they have to work through. And one of my all time favorite quotes is in this book! I think about this one often!

"The love stories sold us the wrong thing. The best kind of love doesn’t happen on moonlit walks and romantic vacations. It happens in between the folds of everyday life. It’s not grand gestures that show how you feel, it’s all the little secret things you do to make her life better that you never tell her about. Taking the end piece of the bread at breakfast so she can have the last middle piece for her sandwich when you pack her lunch. Making sure her car always has gas so she never has to stop at the pump. Telling her you’re not cold and to take your jacket when you are in fact, very, very cold. It’s watching TV on a rainy Sunday while you’re doing laundry and turning her light off when she’s fallen asleep reading. Sharing pizza crusts and laughing about something the kids did and taking care of each other when you’re sick. It isn’t glamorous, it isn’t all butterflies and stars in your eyes. It’s real. This is the kind of love that forever is made of. Because if it’s this good when life is draining and mundane and hard, think of how wonderful it will be when the love songs are playing and the moon is out.”

― Abby Jimenez, Just for the Summer

The Alalfi Curse by Sarah Penner was a fun read. While it isn't my favorite read on this list, it is an honorable mention. This books takes place at the Amalfi Coast, and this book is a mixture between mystery, treasure hunting, romance, and old-world magic. It was a really unique read and the atmosphere of this book is incredible!

Summer's Never Over by Darby Bozeman is another book I added to my TBR this month. I actually just got it in my June Book of the Month box! (If you click on the Book of the Month link, you can join for just $5!)

Anyways, the blurb about this book on Amazon is, "In this addictive dual-timeline debut novel, a woman confronts her past at the remote Southern summer camp where the tragic death of her fellow counselor may not have been an accident after all." That sounds so intriguing! I definitely picked this book because it sounded like a summer read! I will have to report back on how I like it.

The God of the Woods by Liz Moore was a really interesting read from last summer! It has multiple POVs and also duel timelines, so it was a little confusing at first, but then I quickly found myself getting sucked into it. Also, the audiobook version of this book was excellent! I enjoyed listening to it!

This book is another thriller/mystery book. It also takes place in the summer of 1975 at a summer camp. There are a few different mysteries that you are trying to figure out in this book. I definitely felt immersed in this book and I loved the summer camp atmosphere.

So that is my list of books that I think you should read this summer! Leave a comment if you have any summer book recommendations for me!

Anyways thanks for reading!
