A Darker Shade of Magic Book Review
Hi Friend!
I am starting a new series called Book Review! This are probably going to be short and more of my reflections on the book than the actual summary and plot and triggers and all of that in the book. So if you want to know about the book, you might want to find a different review, but if you are curious about what I thought about it, then stick around!
A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab ★★★★☆
Unique magic system | Beautiful writing | Immersive story
This book fulfilled my reading challenge category last year Travel to Different Worlds. And it did it in such a unique way!I enjoyed this book, although I felt like it was really slow in some spots. And then the ending just sort of happened. I really enjoyed the characters and the magic system was really interesting. And there were some unique things within this book that were fun touches, like how Kell's (one of the main characters) coat could turn into many different coats by turning it inside out. That was fun and very unique.
I also enjoyed that the romance was light and not the focus at all. This one felt more like older versions of fantasy where romance is there but its a very small subplot instead of current day romantasy. So the story felt more fresh and unique.
This is not a fast pace book. It is am immersive story. And that is probably why I haven't picked up the second or third book yet, because it took me a while to get into this story.
I do love this edition of the book that I got! I think they are really beautifully done, but unfortunately, they are not in print. So if you are interested in reading this book in the regular cover, here is A Darker Shade of Magic on Amazon.
My Favorite Quotes
"I'd rather die on an adventure than live standing still."
"Sure I do," countered Lila cheerfully. "There's Dull London, Kell London, Creepy London, and Dead London," she recited, ticking them off on her fingers. "See? I'm a fast learner."
"I apologize for anything I might have done. I was not myself." "I apologize for shooting you in the leg." said Lila. "I was myself entirely."
Have you read this series? What did you think?
As always, thanks for reading!
