Allurial Review 2026: Is It Worth The Subscription?
Hey Friend!
Not too long ago I shared my review of Book of the Month and why, after trying several different book subscription boxes, it has become one of my favorites.
Now I wanted to tell you about my other favorite book box that I have grown to love just as much over the last year: Allurial.
Allurial is actually Book of the Month's sister company, but unlike Book of the Month, which focuses on regular, new-release, hardcover editions across multiple genres, Allurial features beautiful special edition new-release romantasy books.
And after recieving 12 Allurial boxes, I figured it was finally time to share my thoughts!
The short version?
I really love this book box.
It's affordable, I get to choose the book I actually want, and I've watched their special editions get better and better over the last year.
Why I Love Allurial
I Get To Choose My Book
Just like with Book of the Month, this is probably one of my favorite things about Allurial.
I love seeing which three books are featured each month and then picking out my book (or books) of the month and then having the anticipation build as I wait for my box to be delivered.
I also really like that I am not limited to just one book each month. I can choose to buy one, two, or all three of the featured books if I want to!
I also found that I have been more likely to read the books in my Allurial book box compared to my FairyLoot book box. I think it's because my anticipation for the book is so much greater because I know what is coming and I'm already intrigued by it.
Also, I have found some of my favorite 5-star reads through Allurial. They have a pretty good selection and a variety of books to choose from even though they are all in the Romantasy genre.
In the Veins of the Drowning by Kalie Cassidy was an Allurial pick and ended up being a 5-star read for me!
The Price Is Really Good for a Special Edition
This is probably one of Allurial's biggest selling points for me.
The regular monthly book is currently $26.99, and shipping is free!
Free shipping might not sound particularly exciting, but if you've subscribed to other special edition book boxes, you know that isn't always the case. And shipping can make an already expensive special edition book box significantly more expensive.
With Allurial, the price I see is actually the price I'm paying.
I can also add additional monthly selections to my box for $19.99 each, which makes it an incredibly affordable way to collect special edition books.
Considering these books have beautiful sprayed edges and increasingly more customized covers, I think the price is fantastic.
The Special Editions Keep Getting Better
Something I think is important to remember about Allurial is that it is still a relatively young book box. And while it is the sister company of Book of the Month, which has been around much longer, Allurial just focuses on creating special editions for new romantasy books.
I subscribed to Allurial for their very first book box, and it has been really neat to see how they have developed over this past year.
Some of my earlier Allurial books looked very similar to the standard editions, and the biggest thing making them special was their sprayed edges.
But over the last year, I've noticed a lot more customization.
I've started getting more unique dust jackets, and I think the artwork on the sprayed edges has gotten better and more detailed too.
That's actually one of the things that makes me excited to continue subscribing. I've already watched the books improve quite a bit over my 12 boxes, and I'm really curious to see what Allurial editions will look like another year from now.
I Love How Allurial Handles Series
This is maybe one of the coolest things Allurial offers.
One problem with recieving a special edition of the first book in a series is...what happens when the sequel comes out? A lot of book boxes let you buy the sequel, but it is usually around $30 for that special edition book, and depending on the sequel, it might sell out fast.
And I don't know about you, but I like my books to match.
Allurial has a pretty unique way of handling sequels, by letting members commit to upcoming sequels for books they've previously offered.
During a limited voting period, members can commit to the sequels they want for $16.99 each. If enough people commit and the book reaches its goal, Allurial makes the special edition.
I'm only charged if the book reaches that goal, and once it releases, it's automatically added to my box.
Where else can you get a brand new hardcover special edition book for $16.99?!
The commitment window for sequels isn't open very long, so if there is a sequel I know I want, I jump on it pretty quickly!
The Loyal Court is Such a Cool Idea
Another feature I've really enjoyed is Allurial's loyalty program, called the Loyal Court. Very Romantasy themed.
I just hit the Sovereign level, which is the highest level. There are four levels total: Court Page, Trusted Advisor, Wise Oracle, and Sovereign.
Court Page is for those who have shipped 0-2 boxes, and one really cool perk about this level is that you can pre-order books in the series for a lower price. You don't have to wait until you are at a higher level for that particular perk!
Trusted Advisor is for those who have shipped 3-5 boxes, and it comes with one perk that I think is particularly cool:
You actually get to vote on future Allurial books!
Trusted Advisors can rank potential future selections, giving members some input into which books Allurial eventually offers. I've also gotten opportunities to give feedback on things Allurial is working on, including design preferences and what I'd like to see on the sprayed edges.
Wise Oracle is for those who have shipped 6-11 boxes. Now, I haven't experienced any of these perks yet because they just went live, but I am really excited to see what they look like. According to Allurial's website, Wise Oracles are able to preview next month's selections before anyone else and can also make a title from the Archive their monthly pick instead of having to pick from the three featured that month. They also earn a collectable bookmark.
Sovereign is for those who have shipped 12+ books. Once again, these perks are super new to me, and though I am at this level, I have not yet experienced them. The perks are: you can earn a free romantasy-inspired tote (this is similar to what Book of the Month does when you ship your 12th box), get a free book coupon for your birthday (this is an exciting perk, but my birthday just passed!), and get priority support (not really sure what that means).
I think out of everything, my favorite perk is still being able to vote on future Allurial books and design preferences. It makes Allurial feel like a book box that is being created with its readers rather than just for them.
Their Customer Service is Fantastic
I've also had a really good experience with Allurial's customer service.
One of my books arrived with some damage to the dust jacket. It wasn't completely destroyed, and Allurial packages their books really well, but the damage was noticeable enough that I was pretty disappointed.
So I emailed customer service, explained what happened, and included some pictures.
They got back to me within 48 hours and gave me two options: they could send me a replacement copy or give me a book credit on my account.
I chose the replacement, and they shipped it out right away!
I was really impressed with how quickly they resolved my issue, and because of it, they definitely have a loyal customer!
Shipping is Pretty Fast
This is another area where I've been really happy with Allurial.
My boxes generally arrive within about a week to a week and a half. And they usually ship the same day or within 24 hours after I selected my book for the month! For a special edition book box, I think that's pretty great!
I've never felt like I was waiting forever, wondering when my book was finally going to show up!
I Can Skip Whenever I Want
Allurial also allows unlimited skips, which I really appreciate.
Interestingly enough though, I hardly ever skip my Allurial book box!
I think I've skipped one month during the entire time I've been subscribed, and that had more to do with me trying to cut back on spending that month than not liking the books.
What I Would Love to See From Allurial in the Future
As much as I love Allurial, I do think there is still room for the special editions themselves to grow.
They don't quite have that super special edition feeling that I get from something like FairyLoot.
While the sprayed edges and dust jackets have become much more unique, I would love to see more custom artwork, especially on the endpapers. I would LOVE to eventually see things like character artwork or more elaborate custom endpapers. And I would also like to see more detail in the artwork on the covers and sprayed edges.
Also, Allurial books don't have author signatures or author letters like the books in other book boxes (FairyLoot, OwlCrate) do, although those aren't nearly as important to me personally.
At the same time, I think Allurial is doing such a fantastic job for the price!
Allurial is considerably more affordable than pretty much all the other special edition book subscriptions I've tried, especially with the free shipping. I don't necessarily expect them to have every customization that FairyLoot has, but once again, they are doing a really great job already and are improving all the time.
Is Allurial Worth It?
Absolutely!
After 12 boxes, Allurial has become one of my favorite book subscriptions, and for good reason too!
I get a beautiful special edition (or two or three) every month without spending a fortune, I can choose which book(s) I actually want, shipping is free, and I've genuinely enjoyed many of the books I've received.
I've even found a 5-star read through it!
I also really like that Allurial seems to listen to its readers and include them in some of the decision-making. Between voting on future monthly selections, committing to the sequels we actually want, and giving feedback through the Loyal Court, it feels like members have a voice in what this book box becomes.
